Coming into the matchup, MSU was a 22-point underdog. </p> <p>Michigan State receiver Ricky White led the way with 196 receiving yards against Michigan, becoming the only player with more single-game receiving yards in this rivalry series history is Sparty's Plaxico Burress (255 in 1999).</p> <div> <blockquote class="twitter-tweet"><a href="https://twitter.com/YahooSports/status/1322625854325821440"></a></blockquote> <script async="async" src="https://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script></div> <p>The Spartans had an early edge, tallying the first touchdown, and never lost the lead. While the two were neck-and-neck throughout the game, MSU ultimately outmuscled and outplayed the Wolverines, and the passing game gave them the edge. </p> <p>Spartans QB Rocky Lombardi went 17 for 32 for 323 yards, capitalizing on an average of 10.1 yards per pass compared to Michigan's 5.1.</p> <p>Michigan State's stunning win makes Mel Tucker only the second Spartan football coach in the rivalry's history to win in his debut (the other was Nick Saban in 1995). Jim Harbaugh is now 3–3 against Michigan State in his six years in Ann Arbor.</p>

New on Sports Illustrated: Report: Washington LB Jon Bostic Fined $12,000 for Andy Dalton Hit

<a href="https://www.si.com/nfl/2020/10/31/jon-bostic-fined-andy-dalton-hit-washington"> <p class="subtitle">Bostic was ejected from last week's game after he hit Dalton in the head as the Cowboys QB was sliding to the turf.</p> <p>Washington Football Team linebacker Jon Bostic has been fined $12,000 for his brutal hit on Cowboys quarterback Andy Dalton last Sunday, according to</p> </a><a href="https://twitter.com/TomPelissero/status/1322619823491338243">NFL Network's Tom Pelissero</a>. <p>Bostic was ejected from the game after he <a href="https://www.si.com/nfl/2020/10/25/andy-dalton-exits-cowboys-washington-hit-head">hit Dalton in the head as the QB was sliding to the turf</a>. Dalton exited the game and did not return after sustaining a concussion.</p> <p>Cowboys head coach Mike McCarthy told reporters after the game that he took exception to the hit, seemingly more so, though, because of how his team responded. </p> <p>"We speak all the time about playing for one another, protecting one another," McCarthy said. "It definitely was not the response you would expect."</p> <p>The Cowboys trailed Washington, 22–3, in the third quarter at the time of the hit. Dalton had completed just nine of his 19 pass attempts for 75 yards with one interception. Dallas went on to lose 25–3 and drop to 2–5 for the season.</p> <p>On Monday, it was reported that <a href="https://www.si.com/nfl/2020/10/26/washington-jon-bostic-not-suspended-dalton-hit">Bostic was not expected to be suspended</a> for the hit but could be fined.</p> <p>Dalton was unable to practice all week and did not clear concussion protocol, causing <a href="https://www.si.com/nfl/2020/10/31/andy-dalton-ruled-out-eagles-cowboys-ben-dinucci-start">Dallas to rule him out for Sunday's game</a> against the Eagles. <a href="https://www.si.com/nfl/2020/10/29/ben-dinucci-cowboys-starter-who-is">Rookie Ben DiNucci</a> will make his first career NFL start on Sunday in place of Dalton.</p> <p>Dinucci, a seventh-round pick out of James Madison, is the third quarterback to play for Dallas this season. Both teams scored touchdowns in overtime, but Indiana went for two after scoring. Indiana <a href="https://www.si.com/college/2020/10/29/michael-penix-jr-indiana-football-penn-state-win">quarterback Michael Penix Jr.</a> rolled left and lunged for the pylon. When he landed, officials ruled that Penix got the ball to the goal line before his hand went down out of bounds. After a long review, the call could not be overturned.</p> <p>The victory gave Indiana its first victory over a top-10 opponent since 1988, and Penn State fell 10 spots in the Top 25 rankings. </p> <p>Meanwhile, Ohio State made easy work of Nebraska in its 52–17 win last weekend. Quarterback Justin Fields had a strong start to his 2020 campaign, completing 20 of 21 passes for 276 yards and two touchdowns.</p> <p>Saturday night's game could potentially determine who will win the Big Ten championship. The winners of the past four matchups between Ohio State and Penn State have gone on to capture the conference title, with the Buckeyes winning the last three.</p>

New on Sports Illustrated: USL Championship Canceled Due to Multiple Positive Coronavirus Tests

<a href="https://www.si.com/soccer/2020/10/31/usl-championship-coronavirus-phoenix-rising-tampa-bay-rowdies"> <p class="subtitle">The Tampa Bay Rowdies and Phoenix Rising will keep their titles as conference champions, but there will be no USL Cup champion in 2020.</p> <p>The first U.S. sports league to return from the pandemic pause and play in home markets almost made it. The USL came so close. But ultimately, its clubs couldn’t hold off the coronavirus long enough to play their championship games.</p> <p>First, Friday’s third-tier USL League One final between Greenville Triumph and Union Omaha was canceled after 10 individuals from the latter tested positive. Then on Saturday morning, Sunday night’s USL Championship title match between the Tampa Bay Rowdies and visiting Phoenix Rising—which was to be the first game in USL history broadcast live by ESPN—was called off following multiple positive tests among the host delegation.</p> <p>The USL Cup, the culmination of U.S. pro soccer’s second-division season, was to be played at the Rowdies’ Al Lang Stadium in downtown St. Petersburg. The USL league office is across the bay in Tampa.</p> <p>While Greenville was named the League One champion and awarded the silver trophy Friday night thanks to its first-place regular season finish, no such declaration will be made in the USL Championship. The 35-team league’s schedule was highly regionalized once clubs returned to action in July, and most played only 16 regular season matches. Tampa Bay and Phoenix then navigated a 16-team, single-elimination playoff to reach Sunday’s final. They’ll keep their titles as Eastern and Western Conference champions, respectively, but the league hardware will go unawarded. There will be no USL Cup champion in 2020.</p> <p>The USL Cup final's prospects took a hit Friday when three Rowdies, including head coach Neil Collins and an unidentified player, received positive coronavirus test results. Collins went into isolation and was going to miss the game. The remaining Rowdies players, coaches and staff were scheduled for follow-up tests at the Tampa Bay Rays’ facility on Saturday morning. The Rowdies and Rays share an ownership group.</p> <p>Several more Rowdies then tested positive on Saturday. The exact number wasn’t immediately available. They’re now required to remain in quarantine for 14 days. That delay, plus health concerns and associated complications, forced the USL to cancel rather than postpone the final.</p> <p>Phoenix was back in the USL Cup final after losing to Louisville City in 2018. Tampa Bay was preparing for its first USL title game, although it did win an NASL crown in 2012 before switching leagues four years later.</p> <p>Following the MLS is Back Tournament in Orlando, MLS returned to play in home markets in late August. Most matches have been played as scheduled, but several were postponed indefinitely because of positive tests and this week, the league announced that playoff positions will be decided by points per game as time runs out on the regular season. It’s scheduled to conclude next weekend. Each MLS club was supposed to play 23 regular season matches in a shortened campaign. However, four Western Conference teams had played just 19 entering Saturday, while the Colorado Rapids were on 15.</p> <p>The MLS Cup final is scheduled for Dec. 12.</p> </a>
